Twitter erupts into mockery over Donald Trump’s attempt to pin the Ukrainian call on Energy Secretary Rick Perry. Didn’t Trump say the call was perfect? Perry didn’t put words into his mouth to shake down the Ukrainian president to dig up dirt on Joe Biden.
Axios reports: “President Trump told House Republicans that he made his now infamous phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the urging of Energy Secretary Rick Perry — a call Trump claimed he didn’t even want to make.”
“Not a lot of people know this but, I didn’t even want to make the call. The only reason I made the call was because Rick asked me to.”
Reaction on Twitter:
OK putting a second $20 on Rick Perry as first Trump cabinet sec to turn state's evidence https://t.co/v0blJ521ED

It was a perfect phone call—pitch perfect—a beautiful conversation. And I didn’t even want to have it. Rick Perry made me do it.

A perfect phone call where I didn't ask for a quid pro quo except I did because that's normal and Rick Perry made me do it because I didn't actually want to make the call at all. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

"I was talked into my crime by Rick Perry" is the most implausible alibi I've ever heard/ https://t.co/Y1eddWxPSq

The House should just accept Trump's statement re Rick Perry – and add the Secretary of Energy to the impeachment probe, alongside the President, VP, Atoltorney General, Secretary of State, and OMB Director.

First Trump said it was a perfect call, now he is saying Rick Perry made him do it. I honestly don't understand how anyone takes this buffoon seriously.

I’m no Rick Perry fan. But seriously, does anyone really think that the person who couldn’t remember the three agencies he wanted to eliminate (one of which he’s currently leading) is the real culprit?
This whole thing is playing out like last week’s #SNL cold opening.
