35-year-old man dies after being hit by an LVMPD corrections officer

 

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A 35-year-old man died after he was hit by a car in North Las Vegas Tuesday night, police said.

At approximately 8:38 p.m., Las Vegas Metro Police responded to the collision, which occurred on North Martin Luther King Boulevard, south of Balzar Avenue. Police say evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado was driving south on North MLK Boulevard, just south of Balzar Avenue.

The pedestrian was walking on the east side of North MLK Boulevard, south of Balzar Avenue, when he entered the roadway to cross to the west side of North MLK Boulevard, outside a marked or implied pedestrian crossing.

According to police, the pedestrian drove into the road of an approaching car and was hit.

Arriving medical workers delivered the pedestrian to the trauma department of the University Medical Center in critical condition. Despite all life-saving measures, the pedestrian died of his injuries shortly after arrival, and traumatologists pronounced him dead.

The death was the 9th traffic-related fatality under the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2023.

Police say the Chevrolet driver works for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as a corrections officer.

The collision is still being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Collision Investigation Unit.
