A fire damaged the waterfront deck of the Shoal Creek saloon Tuesday morning, according to tweets and videos from the Austin Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 909 N. Lamar Blvd. until 8:00 a.m. to extinguish the fire so that it does not enter the restaurant so that the restaurant can open during the day, according to AFD. The video shows that the metal support beams surrounding the patio were left in place after the fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
The New Orleans-style restaurant and bar that Ray Canfield opened in 1993 is no stranger to natural disasters. Flood water from the creek has repeatedly threatened and damaged the building over the decades, including in 2015 and again in 2016, when the water rose several feet inside the restaurant and ripped concrete from the parking lot, which is steps away from the normally quiet creek.

Shoal Creek is known for its massive New Orleans Saints helmet by the late Austin artist Bob “Daddy-O” Wade, which sits on the restaurant’s rooftop, Cajun-inspired dishes, cold beers, friendly service, and an expansive backyard.
This is an evolving story.
