CONVERSE, Texas – According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, a man was arrested after stealing a van full of Ruffles chips from a Walmart store and giving authorities a lengthy chase across town.
Deputies and Converse police were initially called on January 10 to a Walmart store in the 8000 block of FM 78 in Converse over a stolen car.
When the police tracked the vehicle, they realized it was a Ruffles Lays Chips box truck and it was turning onto Cavendish Court.
The suspect, 27-year-old Jeff Jetin, was driving a box truck before he jumped out of it, sending him into the back of a pickup truck, according to the BCSO.
Deputies said the crash caused a pickup truck to crash into a local resident’s garage door.
According to the BCSO, Jetin continued to run from authorities by jumping over fences in a residential area. However, after a lengthy chase and search, deputies managed to track down and arrest him without incident, according to officials.
He is charged with stealing a car valued at $30,000 to less than $150,000 and evading arrest/detention using a car. He is being held at the Bexar County Jail with bail set at $30,000.
“Investigators are currently trying to determine whether MO was the cause of the overeating or simply the love of frilled chips,” the BCSO said.
