HOUSTON (KIAH) — A well-known sports bar in the Montrose area was badly damaged by a fire Friday morning.

The Griff’s Irish Pub, located at 3416 Roseland Street, came under heavy gunfire, Houston fire officials said when they arrived on the scene shortly before 4 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, but the building was declared “completely destroyed.”

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and an investigation is underway.

According to the bar’s website, Griff’s Irish Pub opened in 1965, hence the nickname “Houston’s oldest sports bar”. The bar is also vying for the largest St. Patrick’s Day festival in the state of Texas.
