ABC 13 weatherman Rachel Bryers gives birth to baby girl

The Houston meteorologist’s family got a little bigger over the long holiday weekend. On Sunday, ABC 13’s Rachel Briers announced that she had recently given birth to her second child, a girl named Lane. Briers had her first daughter, Tenley, back in March 2020, and in August of this year, she posted on social media that she was pregnant with her second, writing, “THIS TWISTER HAS A SISTER! Briers baby girl will be born in January 2023.” New photos shared by Bryers over the weekend show Tenley, now almost 3, holding her new sister in her arms.

About two weeks ago, Briers prepped ABC 13 audiences for her upcoming maternity leave via Instagram, informing viewers that they would “start to see less” of her as her baby “is coming very soon.” Meteorologist Alan Shoemaker of KRGV Channel 5 News in the Rio Grande Valley is temporarily filling in for Briers.

Briers fans and colleagues congratulated the meteorologist on the addition to her family this week on social media. The news station welcomed Lane for the first time in a Facebook post on Tuesday morning. “What a beautiful family,” Chief Meteorologist Travis Herzog commented. “Children are a blessing from the Lord. We can’t wait to meet your new blessing!”

ABC 13 host Melanie Lawson also chimed in, writing, “Oh my God Rachel, she’s just beautiful! And you look like a million dollars! I can’t wait to meet her and I’m so happy for your whole family, especially Tenley!” And presenter Rita Garcia, who is expecting her first child very soon, commented: “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Briers and Garcia were among five ABC 13 employees who announced late last year that they were expecting children soon.

Bryers first joined ABC 13 in December 2018 as a meteorologist after leaving NewsWest 9 in Midland, Texas after spending just over two years in front of the camera there. Before taking up her post in the Midland, Briers worked at KLBK in Lubbock as a weekday evening meteorologist. A Plano native, Briers graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in atmospheric science. She also interned at WFAA DFW and KBTX Bryan-College Station.
