DONNA, Texas (ValleyCentral) – A Donna man has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after repeatedly hitting his common-law wife in the head with a hammer, deputies say.
Alberto Santiago Vazquez, 50, was arrested on Christmas Eve and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
At 8:23 pm on December 24, 2022, deputies were sent to Joshua Drive in Donna where they spoke with Vasquez’ common-law wife, who said she and Vaquez had discussed their relationship at the time of the attack, authorities said.
When deputies arrived, the woman’s face and hands were covered in blood, according to a probable cause statement obtained by ValleyCentral.
According to the affidavit, the woman was in the kitchen when Vasquez entered with a knife and hammer.
“Without warning, Alberto hit her on the head with a hammer several times,” the affidavit says.
Vasquez punched her several times in the face and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she received stitches on her forehead due to her injuries, the affidavit said.
Vasquez’s bail is set at $150,000.
