On Wednesday night, authorities found the body of a woman in Grande Prairie near the home of a man suspected of kidnapping a Collin County woman who went missing last week.
Investigators from the Collin County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers found the body in a field, the sheriff’s office confirmed. According to authorities, the search area was near the intersection of Kingswood and Prairie Oak boulevards.
Officials did not identify the remains late Wednesday night, and the sheriff’s office did not provide any further information.
Kayla Kelly, 33, went missing on January 11. Her car was later found “burnt beyond recognition” in Frisco, according to an affidavit in the arrest warrant.
Authorities said in an affidavit that Kelly dated 32-year-old Ocaster Ferguson but discovered that he was married and used an assumed name with her. According to the affidavit, she told friends that she was going to blackmail him.
Ferguson was arrested Saturday on kidnapping charges and remains in custody with a $1 million bail. It is unknown if he has a lawyer.
The area where authorities found the body is less than half a mile from the address Ferguson gave in his affidavit.
