Montgomery County, Texas. A man was taken into custody Wednesday night after leading authorities staged a high-speed chase in parts of Montgomery and Harris counties, according to Montgomery County’s 4th District deputies.

According to authorities, the chase began near a Roman forest and Highway 59 when the suspect was driving recklessly and speeding. When Montgomery County deputies tried to stop him, he started a chase that reached speeds of over 130 mph in southbound lanes 59.

Deputies said the suspect was dodging through heavy traffic, forcing other drivers to take subtle actions to avoid being hit.

The suspect stopped at a gas station at 59 and Rankin Road in Harris County, deputies said. When authorities approached the vehicle, they said the suspect had fled again and started chasing again.

During the chase, a Montgomery County spokesman shot the suspect’s tires in an attempt to disable the car, authorities said. When the suspect turned his car towards the deputy’s car, he fired several more shots at the suspect.

The chase ended at exit 144A and, according to authorities, the suspect began cutting himself and fighting with police officers.

The suspect was taken into custody and deputies said they had taken life-saving measures due to the self-inflicted wounds. The suspect is expected to survive.

Deputies said he was charged with evading driving, dangerous driving and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
