A new bar will open in Austin this spring, bringing a real taste of Ireland to Austin.
The award-winning New York pub Dead Rabbit will open its second location in the country at 204 E. Sixth St. The pub boasts a menu of cocktails like Irish coffee and hearty dishes like sausages and mashed potatoes. It was also named the best bar in the world in 2016 by the (aptly named) World’s 50 Best Bars.
Other awards include the world’s best cocktail bar in 2015 by the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation and the best bar in North America from 2013 to 2016, also recognized by the World’s 50 Best Bars. According to the Dead Rabbit’s official website, it bills itself as “the most titled pub in the world”.

Ahead of its spring opening – and in celebration of National Irish Coffee Day – Dead Rabbit will host a pop-up event on January 25 in Nickel City on East 11th Street. The event will feature Irish coffee along with other cocktails from 7pm to 10pm, with $2 per cocktail donated to Heard Austin, a mental health organization for the food and beverage industry.
The Dead Rabbit opened in 2013 in Manhattan after managing partner and Irish native Jack McGarry co-founded the popular Belfast bar. Equipped with a bar, lounge and what he calls a “special occasion room”, according to The Dead Rabbit’s website, it is “fiercely Irish with an American accent”.
