Birria food truck opens

Today, from 10:30 to 15:00, the new La Sonorense food truck at Classic Toyota will be softly opened.

Owner Amy Reyes visited the East Texas area last January and loved it so much she moved to Chapel Hill.

“We came to visit in January 2022 and immediately felt at home,” she said. “The beautiful land of Texas and the warm-hearted people have definitely won us over.”

Reyes said she is excited to bring real food from Sonora, Mexico to the area.

“I want people to taste real food from the area when they eat at La Sonorense,” she said. “I love to cook and these are original, authentic recipes.”

La Sonorense specializes in Birria dishes and will offer menu items such as Birria tacos, Birria quesadillas, Birria cakes, Birria fries and more.

Reyes said the Chapel Hill community inspired her to start the business after she offered her food to Chapel Hill ISD teachers and staff.

“I offered my food to several CHISD employees to get their feedback. They loved it and it pushed me even more to open my own food truck,” she said. “I am excited and blessed to live in a close-knit community. I look forward to sharing a piece of myself and my food with them.”

Reyes said a soft opening would be a good way for her to make herself known and let people know what she has to offer.

“I want people to know about my business and the food I serve and that Classic Toyota has been recommended by other food trucks,” she said. “Busy place”

ISD Chapel Hill employees will be able to enjoy a 10% discount with their employee badge.

“All four of my children attend ISD in Chapel Hill and their father works in the county,” Reyes said. “They were so kind that they tried my food and gave me a great review. “I educate my children because I know their teachers and have made friends with several of their employees.”

Reyes said starting a business is a dream come true.

“This is what I have always wanted to do. I have worked in the financial industry for over 13 years and it was not something I was passionate about,” she said. “I love to cook and love to give my food a unique flavor. When we moved to the area, we took a leap of faith and went for it.”

The menu will be limited to open smoothly.

The classic Toyota is located at 1717 West Southwest Loop 323.
