Charges brought against man accused of robbing two AISD schools during winter break

Austin (KXAN) – Court documents filed Thursday say a man was arrested by Austin ISD campus police in connection with two burglaries at area elementary schools on Jan. 1 and Jan. 3.

Reports state that David Wayne Hodge, 55, enrolled at Pecan Springs Elementary School and Barbara Jordan Elementary School with the intent to commit theft. Schools were closed due to the AISD winter break.

KXAN has reached out to Hodge’s attorney for comment. This article will be updated if the application is received.

According to the documents, an AISD Police Department dispatcher was viewing live camera footage and saw a white pickup truck in the parking lot of Barbara Jordan Elementary School. The documents also state that the truck was identified as the result of a robbery at Pecan Springs Elementary School.

Reports said that while the dispatcher continued to watch, a man later identified as Hodge was seen entering the school building pushing a cart with a large flat-screen TV.

The report states that the description of the suspect and the clothing for both school heists match.

AISD officers responded to Barbara Jordan and found the truck, which was later revealed to have been stolen. Inside the school, officers found Hodge and took him into custody.

Hoxha was charged with 2 counts of burglary and 1 count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

As of Thursday, Hodge remained in the Travis County Jail on bail totaling $21,000, according to prison records.

Court documents showed that the judge ordered Hodge to stay away from Pecan Springs Elementary School and Barbara Jordan Elementary School.
