Austin (KXAN) — The City of Austin is asking middle and high school students to help drivers stay safe during flooding.
The city’s Watershed Protection Department on Wednesday launched its first annual flood safety video competition.
According to the city announcement, all students in grades 6-12 in the Austin area can create a public announcement showing drivers the importance of “Turn around – don’t drown.”
Contest winners will receive a $100 gift card and other prizes.
The city will announce nine winners in three categories (individual, foreign language, group) in three classes (6-8, 9-10, 11-12).
According to the ad, videos must be horizontal and no longer than 30 seconds. They should encourage drivers to make safe decisions and avoid driving on flooded roads.
The video cannot contain offensive or copyrighted material.
Applications are accepted until March 31st. Winners will be announced April 7th.
