College Station man was supposed to have graduated from hairdressing school before he was murdered

COLLEGE STATION, TX (KBTX) – Relatives speak of Rushon Jones’ death.

Jones, described as a loving father, brother and son, was killed Tuesday in a shootout in the 400 block of Southwest Parkway.

He studied at the Institute of Modern Hairdressing and Beauty and was ready to graduate and become a professional hairdresser.

Jones’ teachers and classmates say they were shocked by the news of his passing.

“When I heard what I heard about him, I tried to call him. I thought it was fake and couldn’t believe it and tried to call him three or four times but didn’t answer,” Edward Estepney said.

Jones’ teacher, Jessica De La Cruz, said he may have had a troubled past, but he turned his life around and was a great student.

“He came on time, finished the course on time, he always volunteered his time for his energy, he was always positive,” she said.

The Institute of Modern Barber and Beauty said they would honor Jones during their next graduation ceremony.

The motive for his murder is still unclear, but on Thursday, police released photos of the three suspects. Click here to find out more about it.
