SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Goodwill reflects on the accomplishments of the past year and looks forward to the promises of the new year. Like most, we are determined to continue our best practices and set our sights on new goals that, for us, are focused on making a difference in our community and fulfilling our mission. One of our priorities this year is to further implement and further deliver on our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Throughout our history, Goodwill has prioritized the equal inclusion of people of all ages, gender, race, national or ethnic origin, religion, language, political opinion, sexual orientation, gender identity, and physical/mental ability. As shown in our shared mission, we believe in accessibility for all, and those who seek our support must see their reflection in our employees and leaders. Inclusiveness, diversity, equality and inclusion are who we are and the fabric of our DNA.
That’s why, in 2022, Goodwill San Antonio invested in the development of the first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. The structure of the committee has been designed with the diversity and values of our people in mind, and includes representatives from all levels of the organization. While maintaining alignment with the organization’s strategies, principles, and goals, the DEI committee works to lay the groundwork for new and existing DEI initiatives, policies, training, and events at Goodwill San Antonio.
Our team is also committed to supporting similar causes in the community around us, which is why we’re proud to have our team members take part in the recent 36th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. March. Walking with other members of the community in honor of Dr. King’s vision for justice, service and civic engagement was one of the many activities our DEI team will be supporting this year.
Also this month, Goodwill was an active participant in San Antonio Dream Week, a citywide summit that embraces diversity, equity and inclusion. Goodwill DEI’s efforts align perfectly with this year’s Dream Week theme of “Identity and Representation”. During the closing event, we presented our version of the Goodwill fashion show, using members of our team to showcase our diverse workforce by wearing clothing that reflects their personality through sustainable fashion from our Goodwill stores.
At Goodwill San Antonio, we strongly believe that diversity, equality and inclusion drive impact, whether within our organization or in the communities we serve. We also believe that if we continue to appreciate our differences, together we can become a dream.
