Crime thriller ‘DI Ray’ to air on PBS Masterpiece Prime Video on February 20

D.I. Ray, a crime thriller executive produced by Jed Mercurio (Duty Duty), starring Parminder Nagra (The Blacklist, Bend It Like Beckham), will air on PBS Masterpiece Prime Video on February 20. .

The four-part series, set in Birmingham, England, will also debut on the PBS app for viewers with the PBS Passport, an additional member benefit that provides enhanced access to the PBS digital programming library on demand.

A subscription to the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video channel is $5.99 per month with an Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscription. The series will also premiere on July 9 from 10 pm to 11 pm EST on PBS, PBS.org and the PBS app.

The series introduces viewers to Leicester native Rachita Rae, a police officer who takes on a case that forces her to face a lifelong personal conflict between her British identity and her South Asian heritage. Rachita gets the promotion she was waiting for when she was asked to join a murder investigation. However, on the first day, she said that the murder she was assigned was a “culturally specific murder.” Rachita’s heart sinks when she suspects she is a “symbolic encounter” chosen for her ethnicity rather than her abilities. However, Rachita continues the case, determined to find the killer and expose the obvious biases her colleagues bring to the investigation. It’s far from easy, because it’s not about a run-of-the-mill murder; this includes diving into the dangerous world of organized crime. Rachita didn’t think that chance was awakening in her; the realization that she had been burying her identity crisis all her life.

The series also stars Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones) as her boss, Chief Inspector Kerry Henderson; Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) as Detective Martin Hunter, who is also Ray’s fiancĂ©; and Maanuv Tiara (“The Landscapers”) as P.S. Toni Khatri, Rachita’s partner.
