Bakeries in north Texas prepare to bake for several days Roscas de Reyes and observe the tradition that Latin American Catholics observe each year on January 6, during the celebration of Three Kings Day.
Rosca de Reyes it is a large oval-shaped bread garnished with dried fruit and a sugar crust. The bread, somewhat similar to the King’s Cake, carries several 1-inch plastic baby figures, symbolizing the baby Jesus or the newborn messiah, according to the Catholic faith.
The tradition is popular in several Latin American countries, and Dallas Latin bakeries are reporting strong demand in the days leading up to January 6, which is the feast of the Epiphany.
“We bake roskas every year,” said Isaac Ramirez, baker at Tango Bakery in Garland.
