DPS: Dallas man who led authorities’ prosecution in Smith County found with 77 pounds of marijuana

The Dallas man who led the Monday night pursuit was later arrested when he fled police who found 77 pounds of marijuana in his car.

Around 10:30 p.m. Monday, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to pull over a driver for a traffic violation on Interstate 164 in Smith County, according to a DPS sergeant. Adam Albritton.

Wilbert J. Brown, 47, of Dallas, was driving the car and didn’t stop to give chase.

The car chase ended at the Village on Broadway apartment complex, from which Brown escaped on foot. The soldier pursued the suspect on foot and grabbed him, Albritton said.

A search of Brown’s car found 77 pounds of marijuana, according to DPS. Brown was charged with evading arrest or detention using a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana >50 pounds <2000 pounds, failure to identify a fugitive from justice.

Brown also had four warrants for his arrest outside of Tarrant County. Brown was incarcerated in the Smith County Jail, where he remains on bail totaling $375,000.
