Eight candidates vie for vacant Waco City Council seat

Waco, TexasKWTX)- Waco City Council members are considering applications from eight District 4 residents who are running to fill the seat of former council member Kelly Palmer, who stepped down in November.

The application process closed earlier this week, and City Council members plan to interview eight applicants during meetings on Tuesday and January 17. Council meeting.

Palmer, a social worker and adjunct instructor at Baylor University, was the District 4 representative from November 2020 to November 2022. Her term expires in four months and the appointee will have to stand in the May 2023 city elections to keep her seat.

Among the reasons for her resignation, Palmer named career conflicts.

  • David G. Horner, retired
  • Anthony Johnson, realtor
  • Noe Israel Loahamin, Associate Pastor of Spanish Ministry at Waco First Baptist Church
  • Chris Matthews, owner of The Palladium
  • Rory Partin, small business owner and recording artist
  • Joan Suppli, retired Baylor professor
  • David Schleicher, Attorney and Former Waco School Board Member
