BROWNSVILLE, TX (ValleyCentral) — Nearly $275,000 in cash was confiscated on the international bridge at Brownsville and Matamoros last week, authorities announced Tuesday.
US Customs and Border Protection said officers were inspecting a 2016 GMC for a scheduled on-site inspection on Jan. 20 and diverted the vehicle to a secondary inspection area.
CBP officers used a K-9 sniffer dog to locate money hidden in a car, federal officials said. a total of $274,867 was found.
“CBP employees seized the currency along with the car,” CPB said. “Special agents of the Homeland Security Service detained the driver and filed a criminal case.”
CPB did not name the driver, but described him as a 41-year-old Mexican citizen living in Brownsville.
