BROWNSVILLE, TX (ValleyCentral) — Nearly $274,000 in cash was confiscated at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge last week, authorities announced Tuesday.
On Jan. 20, Customs and Border Protection officers inspected a 2016 GMC for a routine on-site inspection and sent the vehicle to a secondary screening area, according to a release from the US Customs and Border Protection.
CBP officers used a K-9 sniffer dog to locate money hidden in a car, federal officials said. a total of $274,867 was found.
“CBP employees seized the currency along with the car,” CPB said. “Special agents of the Homeland Security Service detained the driver and filed a criminal case.”
CPB did not name the driver, but described him as a 41-year-old Mexican citizen living in Brownsville.
