Fort Worth police shoot dead a man armed with a machete

Authorities said Fort Worth police shot and killed a man on Saturday after his mother called authorities and said he was armed with a machete-style knife.

The shooting occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the 3500 block of Wedgeworth Road South, police said. Dispatchers received an 911 call from a woman who said her adult son was “in her home and possibly armed with a knife,” Fort Worth police said in a press release.

The officers ordered the suspect, whose identity was not immediately identified by the police, to drop the knife. According to Fort Worth police, the man “presented a lethal threat to the officers” and two officers opened fire, wounding the man and killing him.

Fort Worth Police did not describe the nature of the “death threat” or mention if less lethal options were used prior to the shooting. Police did not immediately respond to several questions, including how long officers tried to negotiate with the gunman before shooting him, whether the shooting was filmed on a body camera and whether the police intended to release the footage, and whether authorities responded earlier. home.
