SAN ANTONIO “San Antonio Spurs fans are expected to gather downtown for a record-breaking game this Friday at the Alamodome.
It’s time to revisit the Spurs’ 50-year history, their five championships and their time at the HemisFair Arena, the Alamodome and the AT&T Center.
But it’s not the downtown San Antonio of 1973, or even the one it was a decade ago – a construction boom has led to road closures in the area.
So, if you are one of the approximately 65,000 fans expected to attend the game, here are some road closures and traffic related decisions. help you navigate downtown San Antonio on a Friday night.
More than 10 public projects are currently being implemented in the city center, due to which roads are blocked.
The construction covers sections of the following streets:
Cesar Chavez Boulevard
If you’re thinking about avoiding Interstate 37 and crossing downtown on Interstate 35 and Cesar Chavez Boulevard, be aware of the Santa Rosa Avenue detours.
Also, if you plan to park west of Interstate 37 and drive through Hemisphere to get to the Alamodome, be aware that the park is under construction so some sidewalks are closed.
Here is the city’s list of road closures in the city center this week:
Parking permits at Alamodome are sold out, but the city offers free parking for game ticket holders at the following sites between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
City Tower Garage at 117 W. Commerce St. Entrance from Main Street or Flores Street.
St. Mary’s Garage at 205 E. Travis St.
Parking is on a first come, first served basis.

VIA Park and Ride:
VIA Park & Ride services will be provided at the following locations:
AT&T Center at 1 AT&T Center Pkwy.
Crossroads at 151 Perekrestok Boulevard.
The service at the Alamodome will be available from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, which is the start of the game. Service from the Alamodome will resume one hour after the fireworks after the game.
The service costs $1.30 one way, but parking is free at each location. Students, military personnel, children and senior citizens can receive discounts.
People can pay by cash or card at the Park & Ride location, or they can use their VIA passes. They can also pre-purchase tickets on the goMobile+ app.
