Austin, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher has been kicked out of the hands of the most unexpected of men: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
During Team America’s game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in the NFC Divisional Playoff game, Abbott took to Twitter to say he could hit as well as Maher, who struggled with the “shouts” by conceding field goal after field goal in the playoffs.
On Sunday, the kicker did not appear to be trusted by the team’s coach, who left Maher on the sidelines after he conceded an extra point even as the team faced fourth and fifth field goals 3 points behind. Eventually, Maher actually saw the action in the game and made two successful field goal attempts.
San Francisco won 19–12 to advance to the NFC Championship Game, and the Cowboys’ season ended with another playoff loss.
