HEB begins plans to open a second Frisco store near Little Elm.

HEB opens a second store in Frisco on land it already owns.

Frisco’s planning and zoning staff granted the company a 30-day extension to submit their preliminary platform work for a future HEB store at the southwest corner of US 380 W. University and FM 423 or Gee Road near Little Elm.

“No construction timeline has been set,” HEB spokeswoman Mabry Jackson said. According to her, the presentation of the preliminary plan has been postponed to January 24. City documents refer to the project as the Four Corners Mall and the extension request was first reported by Community Impact.

Frisco’s first San Antonio grocery store began a long-awaited expansion to Dallas-Fort Worth when it opened in September. This store set attendance records, including on opening day when 1,500 people lined up for the opening at 6 am. The queues for entry continued for several days.

Just 12 days after the Frisco store opened, HEB remodeled the front of the store, adding two checkout counters and four self-checkout counters in response to the crowds of shoppers.

HEB has told city officials that it wants to build a two-street, gas station, and car wash shop on the University on two of its 23.6-acre lots, according to Frisco’s planning documents.

The proposed store is similar to the first Frisco store at the northeast corner of Main Street and Legacy Drive, which is 118,000 square feet, but the size of the new store has yet to be revealed.

A second HEB store opened in Plano last year on November 2, with stores scheduled to open later this year in McKinney and Allen. Two more HE-Bs were announced in Tarrant County at Mansfield and Alliance.

HEB owns more than two dozen parcels at D-FW and is expected to announce additional plans to open new stores this year.

Frisco and Little Elm have attracted new housing developments, including recently announced plans to build more than 1,200 homes near the new PGA of America headquarters.
