HISD board votes to keep Principal Yeats High School in place

Yeats High School Principal Tiffany Guillory is keeping her job after the HISD school board voted to keep her in power at one of the city’s most historic schools.

HOUSTON. Principal Jack Yates High School continues after the Houston Independent School District Board voted to keep Tiffany Guillory in charge at one of the city’s oldest high schools.

On Thursday evening, a heated and lengthy meeting took place at HISD Headquarters. Parents, alumni and community members came to support Guillory.

She was director of Yeats until December, when she was relieved of her position. Some parents and alumni were concerned that Superintendent Millard House II blamed her for her poor test scores. When KHOU 11 News asked HISD why she was fired, they didn’t have a clear answer.

Her supporters showed up on Thursday and made sure they were heard.

“We will fight for her to return to Yates. We’re going to fight. If he wants a fight, he’s dealing with the right school now because we’re not going to bed. I think in 14 years this is the most people from Yeats that I have seen at a board meeting,” said alumnus Jerry Monroe.

Guillory is popular in the community and active on social media. She thanked the students and staff for their messages of support and said she is building on her faith during this time.

HISD said they were not sure when she would return to campus.
