If you drove down South Lamar Boulevard last weekend, you might have noticed the line winding its way in front of a new restaurant in a busy South Austin corridor. What could be the reason for such a culinary commotion? Taco, of course.
Veteran moonshine chef Robert Campos partnered with restaurant owners and Hopdoddy co-founders Larry Perdido and Chuck Smith to open Masa y Mas last week. A restaurant located in the former longtime Austin’s Pizza at 1817 S. Lamar Blvd. offers a menu based on family roots in Campos’ native Central Mexico.

Offerings include 10 tacos (such as suadero, pastor, and fried cauliflower), half a dozen cakes (including carnitas and Milanesa), and a few bowls. Masa y Mas also has a full bar specializing in aguas murals and agave-based spirits. It is open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday and for brunch on Sundays.
