The Texas recruiting class of 2024 has found its quarterback.
Houston Cypress-Fairbanks Jr. Trey Owens announced Wednesday that he is committed to Texas. At 6ft 4in and 200lbs, Owens is a three-star prospect on the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Last month, Owens revealed he was also being recruited by schools like Baylor, Texas Tech, UTSA and Washington State. In November, he received a scholarship offer from Texas coach Steve Sarkisian.
For Texas, the future at quarterback appears to be set, with Arch Manning a valuable prospect in the 2023 UT class and Malik Murphy was a four-star prospect in last year’s class. Former five-star recruit Quinn Evers, who started last season, is a freshman in a red shirt.
At Owens, Texas gets a quarterback who threw for over 3,000 yards and 34 touchdowns in a 12-game Cy-Fair season. In October’s 51-0 rout of Cypress Ridge, he had almost as many touchdown throws (six) as incomplete passes (seven). As a junior, he recorded four passes for 300 yards.
Owens is the third member of the 2024 UT class. Houston Clear Lake athlete Hunter Moddon and Aledo cornerback Jayden Allen are four-star candidates.
