SAN ANTONIO Jefferson High School students have been preparing for months for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo’s Junior Pitmaster Challenge next weekend.
The judges will look for several things including taste, texture and appearance.
“This competition embodies everything we want our children to fully enjoy. It’s communication, it’s camaraderie, but it’s also competition to modify and adjust everything as quickly as you can to make the best product possible because you only get one piece,” said Stacey Carroll, Academic Dean of Individuals and societies in Jefferson. Secondary school.
Teams from all over Texas will test their barbecue skills for a chance to win a scholarship. Teams will compete in three categories: chicken, pork ribs and brisket.
“I got to know different cultures. I also learned how to cook different types of meat, and I’m very excited about what I’ve learned and how I can use it,” said Megan Romo, a student at Jefferson High School.
