The 18-acre Camp Cottonwood, located on the banks of the Bighorn River at a 3-mile landing, is the ultimate fly fishing spot in Montana. Recognized as one of the best rivers for sport, the Bighorn River is a backwater-fed river with beautiful blue waters flowing north. In addition, trout stock has recently recovered in the river, leading to its transformation into a world-class blue trout fishery.

Peak season runs from April to October; however, the river never freezes, allowing for year-round fishing. Current forecasts for the 2023 season in the Bighorn River indicate approximately 1,000–2,000 fish per mile. This includes 10-12″ fish as well as an additional class of 8″ fish as the river returns to glory!

At Cottonwood Camp, all levels are welcome to experience fly fishing! The hotel has its own fly shop, 3-Mile Fly & Tackle, where guests can book professional angler tours, drift boat rentals, shuttle services and more, including buffalo steak food kits and handmade cigars.
