Two days after the body of 33-year-old Kayla Kelly was found in Grande Prairie, a man arrested in connection with her disappearance has been charged with murder.
Ocaster Ferguson, 32, is also charged with kidnapping and arson, with a total bail of $1.5 million. It is unknown if he has a lawyer.
According to the arrest warrant, Kelly was dating Ferguson, also named Kevin Brown, when she found out he was married and using a fake name with her. Kelly told friends she planned to blackmail him, the affidavit says.
Kelly was reported missing on January 11 after her friends said they hadn’t seen her for “a few days,” the Collin County Sheriff’s Office said. Her car was later found “burnt beyond recognition” in a remote area of Frisco.
Ferguson was named as a defendant in the case and arrested on Saturday.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers found the woman’s body Wednesday in a field near the intersection of Kingswood and Prairie Oak Boulevards — less than half a mile from the address Ferguson gave in his affidavit. The remains were identified as Kelly on Thursday.
