Man charged with arson and assault on wife at north Harris County home

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Authorities are looking for a man early Tuesday after he was accused of setting fire to a home in northern Harris County where his estranged wife lived and then hitting her as she evacuated the home.

Pablo Patino, 28, was charged with arson, violation of a protection order and aggravated assault by the Harris County District Attorney’s office. There is no word on his arrest or whereabouts.

Crews from the Northwest Fire Department and the Little York Fire Department responded to a house fire around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 11400 block of Mortimer Drive. Firefighters found smoke and fire in front of the house and quickly extinguished the flames.

Authorities reported that a gas cylinder was found at the entrance to the house.

The crime scene tape was placed in front of the house and the Harris County Fire Department conducted an investigation.

The HCFMO then stated that the suspect, later identified as Patino, deliberately set the house on fire and waited in his car for his ex-wife to leave the house. When she was evacuating her home, investigators said, Patino hit her and fled the scene.
