Man pleads guilty to death of Kilgore woman

According to Gregg County court record, a Henderson man pleaded guilty to stabbing a Kilgore woman in 2021.

Calvin Marcellus Anderson, 33, was charged with murder on November 30, 2021, along with Tyler’s 34-year-old Kendall Damaal Johnson, in the death of La’Shekiah “Shekiah” Sharde Kenny in Kilgore.

Johnson’s trial is set for February 20.

Information about Anderson’s sentencing was not available on Thursday.

Kenny, 35, was stabbed in front of her house on September 2, 2021. According to her obituary, Kenny died the next day.

Anderson was arrested on September 3, and Johnson was sent to the Gregg County Jail the next day, with bail set at $1 million each.

Kilgore Police investigated the incident. According to the arrest warrant and criminal complaint, detectives answered the phone the night of Kenny’s death at the 1400 block of Miles Boulevard.

Kenny was found lying “on the porch with blood on her head”. There was blood on the driveway leading to the body. She has multiple cuts and stab wounds.

Kenny’s sister told police that she had been living with Kenny since January. Around 21:20 on September 2, 2021, a woman came home with her 4-year-old daughter, and according to police documents, only the two of them were at home at the time. She put her daughter to bed and went to the bathroom to get ready to take a shower.

The woman heard a loud bang and a gasp, which she thought was due to Kenny tripping on the porch and slamming into the door.

She told investigators that because the porch lights were off, she and her sister often tripped and slammed against the door. But five minutes later, she still hadn’t heard the door open.

“(She) stated that she went to the front door, looked out the window and saw (Kenny’s) car parked in the driveway, but did not see (her),” court documents say. “(She) suggested turning on the porch light and seeing (Kenny) lying on the porch with blood all around her.”

The woman called 911 and tried to feel for a pulse.

The detectives asked the woman if Kenny had problems with anyone.

“She had issues with her ex-boyfriend Kendall Johnson,” court documents say. “(She) stated that after Kendall Johnson’s breakup, she would call and text La’Shekia to Kenny to fix the relationship, and when that didn’t work, he would threaten suicide.”

The police contacted Johnson in Tyler and he agreed to speak to the police and agreed to have his mobile phone searched by the police.

Documents showed that GPS data indicated that Johnson was in Kilgore around the time of Kenny’s death, and a forensic search of Johnson’s SUV provided possible evidence of blood.

Johnson told police he went to the University of Texas on the Tyler campus before heading to Kilgore and picking up Anderson at a clothing store.

“Johnson said he told Calvin Anderson that La’Shekia Kenny broke his heart, and Calvin Anderson said he was going to ‘fix her,'” court documents say.

They drove to Kenny’s house.

When the couple got to Kenny’s house, Anderson told Johnson to let him out of the car, documents show. Johnson said Anderson returned to the car and confessed to stabbing Kenny.

Kilgore police requested CCTV from a clothing store in Kilgore, and Anderson was seen leaving at 9:30 p.m. on September 2 and “dressed in all dark”.
