Man tries to smuggle $900,000 in undeclared US currency

BROWNSVILLE, TX (ValleyCentral) — More than $900,000 in unregistered US currency was confiscated from a man on the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge this week.

On Tuesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials stopped a 21-year-old man driving a 2013 Chevrolet for a routine on-site inspection at the international port of entry in Brownsville and Matamoros, authorities said.

With the help of the K-9 unit, CBP officers located and seized $931,739 in unregistered currency hidden in the vehicle, officials said.

According to authorities, the currency and vehicle were seized, and special agents from the Homeland Security Service arrested the driver and opened a criminal case.
