Man who faced 40 years for murder in north Austin in 2019 sentenced to 15 years

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A man who pleaded guilty to murder in August 2022 was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in state prison on December 19, according to Travis County records.

Roosevelt Haynes III, 21, was facing up to 40 years in prison, officials said.

Haines and two others were arrested in connection with the murder of 28-year-old Jannerra Williams at a north Austin hotel in May 2019. According to the records, Haynes was 17 at the time of his arrest.

Court hearings for the other two suspects in the case, Timothy Bowie and Jerome Yancey, are scheduled for Tuesday, according to the minutes.

During the investigation, the Austin Police Department described the murder as a robbery turned into a shooting.
