Man who pleaded guilty to raping a 7-year-old girl was sentenced to life in Rockwall County

A man serving a federal prison sentence for raping a 7-year-old girl has been sentenced to life in state prison, the Rockwall County District Attorney’s office said in a press release Monday.

On Thursday, a Rockwall County judge sentenced 35-year-old Mark Alan Miller of Rowlett to life in a state prison. Miller, who pleaded guilty in March to two counts of distributing child pornography, was sentenced to 60 years in prison on federal charges. His state life sentence will be served concurrently with the time he is serving on federal charges.

Miller was arrested in January 2020 after a woman reported that a family friend raped their daughter in the child’s bedroom, prosecutors said. The child’s father held Miller at gunpoint until the police arrived at the house.

Investigators learned that Miller filmed his sexual abuse of a child, the district attorney’s office said.

“This is a disturbing case on many levels,” said Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper. “This unfortunately highlights that no community is immune from sexual predators. We must all remain vigilant to keep children safe from such evil.”
