Man who robbed taqueria was shot dead by buyer: Houston police

The Houston Police Department is looking for a man who was caught on CCTV footage killing an armed robber in a taqueria in southwest Houston late Thursday evening. Footage obtained by KHOU 11 shows a man wearing a black ski mask entering the Ranchito Taqueria on S. Gessner near Bellaire Boulevard just before 11:30 p.m. and pointing a gun at customers, collecting their money.

However, as he moved towards the door, one of the shoppers pulled out a gun and fatally shot the armed man. Police said in a Friday press release that the shooter then returned the stolen money to other clients. He and other visitors fled the scene before police arrived. According to police, none of the patrons of the restaurant were injured during the incident.

It turned out that the now-deceased armed robber, whose identity has not yet been established, did not have a real weapon, police told HOU 11. R. Wilkens said. “He had a plastic gun, maybe an airsoft gun, or maybe a small BB gun.”

Investigators said the man, also unidentified, is wanted for questioning over his role in the shooting and has not been charged. Police also released security camera photos of a 1970s or 80s model pickup truck without a body.

Houston Police are asking the shooter and witnesses who left the scene to contact HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600 and provide evidence regarding the incident. Anyone who recognizes the shooter is also asked to contact police.
