Officials said the fisherman was in a lancha boat, which is used by Mexican fishermen and can travel at over 30 miles per hour. The boat was also hijacked.
The Coast Guard said lunches are often used to transport illegal drugs to the United States, as well as illegal fishing in the United States Exclusive Economic Zone near the US-Mexico border in the Gulf of Mexico.
