ROOSEVELT COUNTY, New Mexico. New Mexico State Police (NMSP) officers were investigating a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Roosevelt County involving a school bus and a semi-trailer.
According to social media post According to NMSP, the accident occurred northwest of Portales at the intersection of State Route 236 (Bethel Highway) and South Roosevelt Road T.
There were 22 people on the school bus, according to NMSP. One person was taken in with serious injuries. Another six people were taken with minor injuries.
“Some students and the driver were taken to the hospital for stitches and observation,” Portales Public Schools superintendent Johnny Kane told The Eastern New Mexico News.
According to Kane, most of the students on the bus were picked up by their parents.
The Portales/Roosevelt County Office of Emergency Management asked the public to avoid the area.
