No. 10 Texas Longhorns lose early to beat No. 17 TCU.

Austin (KXAN) — With a minute left in the game, senior Texas quarterback Marcus Carr had some space between him and the TCU guard. Carr made sure he took advantage of this.

Carr hit a 3-pointer to give the Longhorns their first 76-73 lead of the game before holding on to a 79-75 win over the Horned Frogs on Thursday at the Moody Center.

TCU had a chance to equalize with 0:37 left, but Emanuel Miller’s free kick bounced off the back of the hoop and landed in the hands of Jabari Rice of Texas. With 6.2 seconds left in the match, Rice ended the game with a pair of penalties. He scored all 15 points in the second half, eight of which came at the free throw line.

From the start, the Horned Frogs have been a more physical team, pushing the Horns to both ends of the court. TCU built an 18-point lead, 40–22, with 2:57 left in the first half, and Texas looked out of place offensively.

However, the trio of Rice, Dylan Disu and Timmy Allen combined to score 37 of the Longhorns’ 50 points in the second half. Disu scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and played a perfect 6 of 6 from the field. Allen scored 10 points in the second half and finished the game with a team-high 17.

Prior to Carr’s well-timed 3-pointer, TCU had an answer to everything the Longhorns threw at them. Texas cut the Frogs’ lead to zero after a pair of free throws from Rice with 12:10 left in the game, but TCU went on an 8-0 streak capped by Damion Bowe’s 3-pointer to extend the lead to 57-47.

Rice scored nine points in a row for the Horns to bring back the Frogs, culminating in a three-point hit with 8:41 left. Disu then converted a layup, making the score 63-57, and then performed well in defense, blocking. Texas fought back TCU’s lead to 67-65 after Disu hit a hard paint break with 5:21 left. Rice equalized at 67-67 with a pair of penalties at 4:39 – the first draw of the game as it was 2-2 in the first half.

TCU led 42–29 at halftime after eight interceptions and 10 of 11 games from the foul line. The Longhorns had a drought from 9:27 after Allen’s jump until 6:09 when Hunter hit the first 3-pointer of the Texas game. During this time, TCU went 8-0.

Texas edged out TCU 7-0 at the end of the first half. Allen made a lay and Hunter hit another 3-pointer and then Deesu made the Moody Center explode with a two-handed dunk. The slam put Texas within 11, 40–29, with about a minute left in the half.

For the Horned Frogs, Miller scored a game-high 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting. Mike Miles scored 16 points for TCU.

Texas (14-2, 3-1 Big 12 Conference) hosts Texas Tech at 7:00 pm on Saturday. TCU (13-3, 2-2) hosts No. 11 Kansas State at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
