North Texas Hoop Rewind: UNT 67, Louisiana Tech 65

The final: North Texas 67, Louisiana Tech 65

Where is the UNT: UNT went 14-3 on the season and 5-1 in Conference USA after winning their fourth consecutive game. The Mean Greens have started 5-1 in each of the past five years.

What now?: UNT will travel to Florida in the Atlantic on Saturday to take on the Owls. FAU gave Mean Green their only loss in a C-USA game this season.

The Owls are undefeated in the 5-0 C-US game after beating Florida International on Wednesday.

Star of the Night: Tylor Perry scored 21 points and hit five shots from three-point range. UNT needed every one of those points that night as he struggled to slow down Louisiana Tech in the second half.

“We created some confusion to get Kai [Huntsberry] descending to the right. We gave him this side of the room so he could play.”

— Grant McCasland, UNT coach, on what he drew before Huntsberry landed the takedown.

Our opinion: McCasland put it best after UNT’s victory over Louisiana Tech. He said Evil Green found a way to win.

This was definitely not the typical route that UNT usually takes. The Mean Green lost 47 points in the second half to take an 18-point lead before being locked into a 65-65 draw.

What happened in the last seconds was not at all what was expected. Last year, Perry hit two huge triples late in games, propelling UNT to victories over Louisiana Tech in the regular season.

It could be assumed that the UNT would return to Perry. McCasland envisioned the Bulldogs bringing in Coub Williams, a terrific guard, as their star player.

This is exactly what Louisiana Tech did. UNT passed the ball to Huntsberry, who drove correctly, rode up and threw the game-winning shot.

We’ll talk more tonight game plot.
