San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Hosts Uvalde Qualifiers

UVALDE Less than a month left before release. San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

This year, rodeo officials are hosting qualifying tournament at Uvalda, not at an invite-only rodeo.

After over a year of hard work and thousands of volunteers, it’s time to saddle up and start the fun.

“Bringing rodeo anywhere is really one of our goals,” said Chris Derby, stock show and rodeo marketing director. “Let the children see it, let everyone see it. It’s such a fun event and it’s been going on for generations and decades.”

Since Monday, more than 800 participants have taken part in the competition.

The top 10 will take part in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

Jay Tom Fisher is fighting for one of those spots.

“I think I’m sitting somewhere in 7th or 8th, but I’m only 9 tenths of a second behind third, so I feel like if I manage well and run well, I can move up a bit. on average,” Fischer said. He participates in steering rope competitions.

In addition to being the first qualifying rodeo event, this event brings the sights and sounds of big city rodeo to a small community like Uvalde.

“Rural roots combined with the great luxury and circumstance of a giant urban rodeo like San Antonio, you put them together and we’re going to get some of that tonight,” said Cody Davenport, rodeo CEO.

Over $11 million was raffled off last year at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. scholarships. They hope to do it again this year and also inspire the next generation of rodeoists.

“I can sit back and tell every member that you had your chance to go to San Antonio, which is the biggest and coolest rodeo in the country,” Davenport said.

With stands sold out on Saturday night, the first-ever mix of rural and urban rodeo is already a huge success.

The San Antonio Rodeo kicks off in February.
