Sheriff: Texas woman threatened to kill clerk who refused her beer

SAN BENITO, Texas. The Cameron County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a woman accused of threatening to kill a store clerk who refused to sell her beer, authorities said.

Sonia Marisela Reyes Mendoza, 46, was arrested on Thursday on charges of making a terrorist threat, according to Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza.

On Thursday, MPs addressed a store on the 2200 block of Highway 281, citing unrest.

The clerk told the dispatcher that the woman had threatened to kill her, authorities said. Upon arrival, deputies found a woman named Reyes Mendoza, the report said.

“The store clerk stated that Reyes Mendoza entered the store talking to herself, took 2 beers from the refrigerator, went to the checkout and threw the beer on the counter,” the report said.

Reyes Mendoza then became angry when she was not asked to show ID and the clerk told her that she would not sell her beer, authorities said.

According to the release, it was at this point that Reyes Mendoza started rioting in the store, telling the clerk that she would “kill her with a gun if she didn’t sell her a beer.”

Deputies spoke to witnesses who corroborated the clerk’s testimony, the CCSO said.

Reyes Mendoza was arrested and taken to the Carrisales-Ruker Detention Center. The case remains under investigation.
