EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – A migrant smuggler chased soldiers at high speed through Hidalgo County before crashing into a fence and jumping out along with more than a dozen migrants.
Soldiers from the Texas Department of Public Safety attempted to stop an SUV on Route 281 on January 19 before the vehicle moved.
With the help of a DPS helicopter, the servicemen followed the SUV until it crashed into the fence of the ranch.
Infrared images from the helicopter show several people jumping out of the SUV and running as it comes to a halt, as well as foot soldiers holding up the people.
The security forces detained 15 people and handed them over to the border guards.
A traffic police spokesman told Border Report that there were no casualties and that anyone who tried to evade was detained. However, the driver drove into the ranch and could not be identified, a spokesman said.
Highway 281 runs along the border in rural Hidalgo County.
