Southwest raises five executives just weeks after catastrophic crisis

Southwest Airlines has announced seasonal sales and promotions just a week after a historic setback that affected hundreds of thousands of passengers.

The carrier promoted five executives to even higher positions of responsibility. All have worked for Southwest for years, some for more than two decades. The company said no one was demoted.

The announcement goes against what some expected – heads rolling after the company canceled nearly 17,000 flights in the past few weeks.

Southwest has also launched sales for some destinations. The company says they are seasonal and not a response to a crisis.

However, analysts expect low rates could revive customer interest. However, this year’s $49 one-way sales for select cities aren’t as low as the $29 annual deals.
