Wisconsin police said the girl’s boyfriend shot her three times in the head after she broke up with him. He is charged as an adult.
RASIN, Wisconsin. A 14-year-old girl from Wisconsin is being called a “walking miracle” after she was shot in the head three times.
Miranda Perales revealed that her daughter Jazlyn Jones had been dating her boyfriend for over a year when she decided to break up with him. When she broke the news, he shot her, in what he told investigators, in “a fit of rage.”
“I had no idea he had a gun,” Perales said. “I bought a child a Christmas present; you won’t know about such things until you open the mask.”
Perales calls his daughter a miracle because she survived.
“She is so proud to be alive,” Perales said. “She’s still cheeky, she can’t wait to put on her makeup.”
Jazlyn talks, walks and smiles at a Wisconsin hospital just two days after being shot.
Investigators said Jazlyn’s boyfriend admitted to shooting her when she broke up with him.
Perales said she never noticed any warning signs.
“I didn’t think it was possible because they are children. I didn’t think there was evil in children,” Perales said.
A 14-year-old teenager has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder.
Jazlyn’s brain function was not affected, but the effects of the trauma she went through will last a lifetime.
“She lost sight in one eye, but the doctors told her that she would be able to do everything that people with two eyes can do,” Perales said.
Jazlyn will also have to live with several bullets stuck in her body.
“She is a walking miracle,” Perales said.
Jazlyn takes the worst day of her life and uses it to speak up for those in abusive relationships.
“This is her new path and I will help her in every way I can,” Perales said. “God gave her a second chance.”
The shooter was ordered to remain in custody on $500,000 bail. His name has not been released because he is a minor. He is due back in court next week.
