Teenager hospitalized after West Side shooting, two suspects on the run, police say

SAN ANTONIO – According to San Antonio police, an 18-year-old is recovering at a district hospital and two suspects are on the run after a West Side shooting.

The incident happened just after 2 p.m. Sunday in the 1800 block on Paso del Sur and Merida Street.

When the police arrived, they found the teenager had a gunshot wound to his right leg. The witness helped apply a tourniquet before an ambulance took him to the district hospital.

Police said the teen’s injuries were not life-threatening and he was expected to recover.

The teenager who was shot told officers he was heading east on Mérida when a car pulled up and people inside shot at him before fleeing the scene, SAPD said.

Witnesses told police a different story, claiming that the victim and two other men were in the car when it stopped.

They said all three got out of the car and the two men pulled out their weapons and shot the 18-year-old, wounding him once in the leg, police said.

Both armed men returned to the car and headed east.

The police, who examined the scene, found shell casings from two different guns. They said they believe it was a targeted shooting.

The police are still working on the search for suspects, the investigation continues.
