ODESSA, TX (KMID/KPEJ) — Three Odessa high school students, brothers Eziah Cisneros and Zavian Cisneros, and Gabriel Haley, travel to the Big Apple for the chance of a lifetime.
The trio were selected to perform at the High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in February.
Broncho Band assistant director Jimmy Olag said the teens were selected after intense auditioning among 10,000 other applicants.
“It wasn’t easy to send money and walk away, you really have to audition and it’s quite difficult… to be selected,” Olag said.
The concert series features outstanding performing students and three OHS percussionists, all from a family of musicians, said they are grateful for the opportunity.
“It’s a big deal because percussionists from all over the world can try their hand and we’ve been chosen (among) the best bands,” said Zavian.
“The last few years I really enjoyed playing percussion, but I don’t know if I can continue doing it in college … so this is my last opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall,” said Haley.
The trio will travel to New York on January 31st for a performance on February 4th. If you would like to help with transportation costs, you can send your donation to Odessa High Band Boosters, PO Box 1842, Odessa, TX 79760.
