LUBBOK — Bre’Amber Scott scored a game-high 31 points, including key last-minute free throws, to lead the Texas Tech women’s basketball team to a 68-64 victory over No. 25 Texas on Wednesday at the United Supermarkets Arena.
The Longhorns scored one point with 1:21 to spare, but the Lady Raiders held the final rally and lost to Team UT in the rankings for the third straight season.
It was a one possession game when UT’s Sonja Morris missed a 3-pointer with 33 seconds left. Katy Ferrell intercepted a rebound from Tech that froze the game on the charity streak.
It was Scott’s second consecutive game in which he scored 30 or more points. Last Saturday in Kansas State, the current Big 12 Player of the Week had 37 points.
Tech started the second half 7-0 and took a 37-27 lead. UT cut the gap to three points after two buckets in the last 25 seconds of the third quarter. This included a fast break from Deyona Gaston after the interception signal and a pass from Rory Harmon.
Harmon, the Longhorns’ star point guard, began looking for her shot more, scoring six points on 3 of 7 attempts in the third quarter.
The Lady Raiders overcame the cold start of the attack and took the lead at half-time. Scott had 10 of her 16 points in the first half in the second quarter as Tech scored 5 of 9. The Lady Raiders went into the locker room 30-27.
The Longhorns (13-6, 4-2 Big 12) will next play at Baylor on Sunday afternoon.
