PORT ISABEL, Texas (ValleyCentral) – A Cameron County man has been arrested after attempting to cut a woman with a machete, authorities said.
Aldo Lopez, 32, was arrested January 7 on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office.
On January 7, deputies responded to the 900 block of Highway 100 near Port Isabel in a riot in which a woman reported to authorities that she was attacked by Lopez after he arrived at her residence in the 4700 block of Michigan Street , at the sheriff’s house. the office said.
She told deputies that he was “angry and aggressive towards her,” the report said. She said she did not want him on her property, authorities said, and he refused to leave until her son escorted him out of the premises.
Later that day, she was walking to the store to buy groceries when Lopez, who was “extremely angry,” pushed her three times with both hands, authorities said.
According to the sheriff’s office, “Lopez brandished a machete and tried to cut the victim.”
In response, the woman pulled out a penknife to protect herself, the sheriff’s office said.
Lopez was arrested with the help of the Port Isabel Police Department and then noted that he had an outstanding warrant to evade arrest or detention, the sheriff’s office said.
He was taken to the Carrisales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito.
